Class Description

We are offering a SPECIAL PRICE for class with our new instructor, Carla Ponder! This is a unique experience to share with someone special: a 2-hour pottery lesson for two people is set in our cozy studio. The session includes an instructional period followed by hands-on making.  Couples are able to complete 1 piece each, which can then be finished (glazed and fired) for an additional $15 per piece if desired.  Finished pieces are usually ready for pick-up within 3-4 weeks depending on the studio firing schedule. We recommend that couples wear clothing they don't mind getting messy (clay comes out in the wash easily) and bring a dishtowel. Meet Carla Ponder: Carla started her pottery adventure as a studio member of White Lotus Pottery and student of Amanda Bartel back in 2019. When the opportunity arose, Carla purchased a wheel from Amanda and started her own pottery business, Salamander Hands Pottery. Carla grew up around the arts, and has early memories of her mother’s beautiful black clay pottery collection from her home-country of Mexico. She loves how a vessel designed for everyday use can also be a piece of art. For Carla, working with clay has become a source of endless learning and creativity. She embraces the many lessons that clay offers, like patience and slowing down - a challenge for a mom of 2 children always on the go! Carla grew up in College Station and graduated from Texas A&M. She is looking forward to become a more active member of the art community here and is excited to share her pottery skills as an instructor at White Lotus!
